Queen Elodie wanted to avoid upsetting the woman who was, rightfully, supposed to be where she was now. Surely King Astor and the kingdom he ruled would have preferred one of their own as Queen. Instead they had her: skinny, awkward and unsure. When the elegant vampiress swept into the room it was not the knee-knockingnerves that made her dip into a respectful curtesy (a gesture that by all means should have been given to her, not from her.) It was a desire to please her husband and by extension – his mistress. Too late did Elodie realize that she would never be able to please her husband’s mistress. At least, not while she was alive.
